Laughter As Dog Spits Food Unless Owners 'Season' It With Salad Dressing

Publish date: 2024-05-20

A video of a dog with a specific preference for how her food is served has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by Michelle Joanne (@mickymets) and has had over 841,000 views since it was posted on December 31.

A message overlaid on the video says: "Spits her food out unless we 'season' it with salad dressing." The footage shows a man offering a bowl of food to dog standing in a kitchen. The pup does not appear interested and looks the other way.

The man later takes out what appears to be a bottle of salad dressing from the refrigerator and pretends to drizzle it over the dog food, with the cap of the bottle closed. He gives the bowl a little shake before the pup is seen tucking into her food as the clip ends.

According to a previous video shared by the poster, the 14-year-old dog has "a sensitive stomach" and is on a prescribed diet.

While not every dog might be picky with their food, it's important to have a routine around feeding.

"Dogs are creatures of habit. We can use this fact to our advantage by creating a regular feeding schedule and sticking to it," said veterinarians Ryan Llera and Robin Downing in an article for VCA, the North American animal hospital chain.

Feeding our canine friends at regular times "provides the security and predictability of a routine," making meals "a cornerstone event of the day around which other activities are added," they noted.

Having a feeding routine can help your canine cope with any changes in the household, such as a child going away to college, a new baby or when the family are away on vacation and a house-sitter is in charge, the veterinarians said.

Eating habits for dogs can also be tied to their genetics and some breeds are known to have healthier appetites than others. However, much of it is down to the environment, according veterinarian Jerry Klein, the chief veterinary officer of the American Kennel Club, the world's largest purebred dog registry.

Klein advises having a consistent feeding routine to keep your canine companions from become picky eaters by doing the following:
