Akon Responds to Memes Making Fun of His Hairline After Transplant Surgery
Akon is a wildly successful Senegalese-American singer and record producer, known for mega-hits like "Lonely" and "Locked Up." He's also a good sport.
This week, Akon (legal name Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam) clapped back at his social media haters who started poking fun at his hairline. The haters came for the 2000s music legend after he revealed on The Bootleg Kev Podcast earlier this month that he'd paid $7,500 for a hair transplant in Turkey.
But Akon seems to be taking it all in stride.
"Yo this Akon hairline challenge is the funniest shit I've ever scene," the star wrote on Tuesday, adding 16 laugh emojis. "You guys got me rolling!! Send more please!!!"

The tweet included four photos of Akonβone of which was split with a picture of a black-haired Lego. Two other edited photos placed the singer's hairline in different spots on his forehead, and one showed him entirely bald.

β AKON (@Akon) October 18, 2022Minutes later, Akon posted another going-along-with-the-joke tweet. This time, it included a photo of a red-haired white man with an unusual cut and hairline.
"I know my hairline can't be worse then this," Akon wrote, this time adding 11 laugh emojis.
During the recent Bootleg Kev episode, Akon told the show's host that he'd received the hair procedure in Turkey. He claimed that the country is good for two things: hair and teeth.
"Don't forget, in the beginning, my whole front was loose, it was thin," he said.
The procedure wasn't too painful, he added, and it also apparently didn't break the bank.
"That's the thing. It's so affordableβit's ridiculous," Akon said. "For what I did, it would have cost me $50,000 here in America. I paid $7,500."
Two days before Akon's Twitter reply, user @el_budget posted a photo of the singer with the caption: "Akon got the frontal sitting too low." The tweet went viral and had received some 32,000 likes by early Thursday afternoon.
Even celebrities have joined in the jest, with Coming 2 America actor Michael Blackson tweeting on Wednesday: "Akon I just saw your new hair, please call me."
